iliveforsleep: Non-Sims related posts (Default)
So after getting some feed back from reader and my husband, I'm going to move on to SimCity 3000. In some ways this is good because I was not getting anywhere with the challenges in SimCity and I played the heck out of SimCity 2000 and SimTower when they were out as new, but SimCity 3000 didn't get as much love I think because it came out in 1999 and I graduated from college in 2000 so for its first whole year and a couple months I probably wasn't playing it (I did summer course as well) and then I was working so I only had two days a week and The Sims came out in 2000 as well which I got right after college and was glued to for, well, however long it was, I played the heck out of that game as well, but I am looking forward to replaying it because I always played it the same way all of the time and there is more than one way to play The Sims where as SimCity games have slightly less flexibility.

I'm nervous about moving on to SimCity 3000 because I am not as familiar with it, but I have two guides, which may or may not be useful to me, but I will do my best to go through them and come up with a set of goals to post before I actually start playing so it may be a while before the next post because this takes a while to prep for this and it is a much bigger game.

While you wait for the next post I have found the loading video on YouTube which I have included with this post for your enjoyment.

Side Note: This video does not scale very well, even when working with the original file but the game itself looks fine. Just hoping I can play the game in windowed mode so I can do screen shots because I don't know yet if there is a camera in the this game and there are things I want to get screen shots of that a camera wouldn't take anyway.

Second Side Note: Now I get to figure out a new icon!!

So I am really bad about getting these things up in time, but there were some screen shots I wanted to get that I had missed before and required a replay. There is no camera in SimCity and so this is a Ctrl+Alt+Print Screen in order to take the image (after pausing the game) then paste into the photo editor and saving it for web in the photo editor.

As always, I recommend viewing the slideshow on full screen mode as that is how I intended it to be viewed so you can read the text.

Yeah I actually managed to play this month...

I got inspired to finish up and write the post for Grid City so here it is.

I'm going to move on to the Challenges part of mastering this game.

Remember to view in full screen to make the text easier to see.

I had intended to post this earlier today, but my health has been conspiring against me so I had to take a very long nap. Okay, I was asleep for nearly six hours as a nap, because my head decided to go, but I am awake now and doing a little better than this morning so time to get this posted.

You may be noticing that there is also a new icon on this journal, it is the Stadium in SimCity, it was the most colorful thing I could find in the game and decided that was good enough for what I needed it to represent. Kevin told me to remind him on his next day off and he would help me make a better icon, but unless I get inspired to have something better I think I will stick with this one.

This entry is longer than I expected it to be because of "issues" that I ran into with the game; hopefully it will be interesting.

Make sure to view on full size.

My plan has been to post at least once a month on this so I am getting this in just under the wire. Hopefully the next post will not take 50+ days to play, edit, write, and post.

Since you can't really do story telling in SimCity this is more a show and tell of what I did. Since the images could get really repetitive in future posts, the images will most likely only be of actual changes to the city and any pop-ups I see in the game.

Also, I am trying to come up with a separate Icon for these type of posts, if anyone has suggestions, please let me know, I could use some help as my editing skills are currently limited to selecting something in a square shape, cropping, and saving. I have Photoshop, but it is kind of wasted on me right now.

Okay, joints are starting to hurt in my hands, let me know what you think of the album.  Make sure to view on full size.

I know I played SimCity before and had considered it finished, but I don't have any notes from it and I cannot remember what I did, but I know it is not quite as complete as this will hopefully be.

The first part of my plan is to make a city based on the template used in the guide linked below.  This is the only thing I can remember doing last time and I am pretty sure it worked perfectly.  I am going to use the knowledge gained from setting this up to help with the second and largest part of the plan that I have come up with.

So in the past I have probably played a scenario once and failed miserably at it.  I have never been that worried about scenarios in games because the main reason I like these games is their open endedness.  As I was planning this I realized I couldn't really say I had mastered the game without completing these as well so these are being included here.  The scenarios included with the game are listed below.  I don't actually have the information for the scenarios, I'm sure it is online somewhere, but it will probably end up being a surprise when I get to that part.

Dullsville USA 1900 Boredom

San Francisco USA 1906 Earthquake

Hamburg Germany 1944 Bombings

Bern Switzerland Traffic 1965

Tokyo Japan 1957 Monster

Detroit USA 1972 Crime

Boston USA 2010 Meltdown

Rio De Janeiro Brazil 2047 Flooding

If you have any suggestions for things I should do with the game, please leave them in the comments below and I will see if I can add them.  I don't have any estimate on how long this will take; I am generally very bad at scenarios so that will probably take a while.
